Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
We're a small team in Tokyo. This page explains what vibe does with your stuff. We wrote down what really happens, not what sounds nice. If the app doesn't match this page, that's a bug. Tell us and we'll fix it.
What We Save
- Your account. If you sign in with Apple, we get an ID number. We only get your name and email if you pick "share." You can also use vibe without signing in at all.
- What you do in the app. Places you save, places you skip, places you open, plans you make. This is how vibe learns what you like.
- Your chats with Ask Vibe. Your questions and vibe's answers. There's a whole section on this below.
- Where you are. While the app is open, so we can show you what's close. Also while it's closed, but only if you turn on live sharing with friends.
- Your friends. Who you're connected to, and what you choose to share with them.
- Your phone. What kind of phone it is, what version of iOS it runs, and which version of vibe you have.
Ask Vibe Remembers You
Ask Vibe does not forget when you close it. Here's exactly what sticks around.
- On your phone: your last 50 messages stay in the app, so your chat is still there when you come back.
- On our computers: when a chat ends, we save a short note about it. Under 300 letters. It covers your first few questions and the places that came up.
- Used again later: your 3 newest notes get sent along when you start your next chat. That's how vibe picks up where you left off. This happens no matter which memory setting you pick.
- If you report an answer: we keep that question and answer so a real person can look at it.
Logging out or deleting your account erases the chat on your phone. Deleting your account also erases the notes and reports from our computers.
What Ask Vibe Sends Out
vibe doesn't write its own answers. It sends your question to an outside AI company, and that company writes the answer.
Here's what goes with your question: your last 15 messages, your recent chat notes, the kinds of places you like, names of places you saved, foods you can't eat, and roughly where you are.
We don't send your name, your email, or your Apple ID.
If you pick Remember everything, we also send personal things you typed in yourself. Your partner's name, for example, and what they like and don't like.
We use other AI companies to write and translate the info about places. Those only ever see place info. Nothing about you.
Where You Are
Normally vibe only checks where you are while the app is open. That's how it sorts places by how close they are to you.
Sharing your spot with friends is off unless you turn it on. If you turn it on:
- Only the friends you pick can see it.
- Your spot erases itself after 24 hours. We keep where you are now, not a map of everywhere you've been.
- If you also turn on background updates, vibe can check your spot while the app is closed. Your iPhone shows a marker at the top of the screen the whole time this is on.
- Ghost mode stops sharing right away. You can also shut off location in your iPhone settings.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell your info.
- We don't use ad trackers.
- We don't read your contacts, photos, or messages.
- We don't keep your card number. Apple handles paying.
- We don't show your spot to anyone but the friends you pick.
Where Your Stuff Is Kept
Your info sits on computers in Asia. Private things you type in, like your partner's name, stay locked on your phone instead of going to us at all.
Who Else Sees It
We pay a few outside companies to help run vibe. Each one only gets the piece it needs to do its job:
- the company that stores your info and signs you in
- the AI company that writes Ask Vibe's answers
- AI companies that write and translate info about places
- the company that draws the maps
- the company that gives us place photos and opening hours
- the company that tells us when the app crashes
- Apple, for signing in, subscriptions, and notifications
None of them get the whole picture of who you are.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your info while your account is open. Shared spots erase themselves after 24 hours. Everything else stays until you delete your account.
Erasing Everything
Go to Settings › Account › Delete Account.
That erases your saved places, what vibe learned about your taste, your chat notes, your reports, your friends, your shared spot, and the app info tied to you. It also erases the chat saved on your phone. You can't undo it.
Want a copy of your info instead? Or want just one thing erased? Email privacy@whatsthevibe.io.
Kids
vibe is not for people under 17. We don't collect info from kids on purpose.
If This Page Changes
If we change how we handle your info, we'll change this page and the date at the top.
